Phoenix ‘Nix’ Knight thought pulling his club out of the illegal shit his Pops got them into was difficult.

Until he meets Kadence.

Kadence Turner has no business lusting over a student’s father, especially the president of the Knights Rebels MC. Nix is crass, obnoxious and dangerously sexy and for some reason, Kadence can’t seem to hate him for it. The bossy biker breaks down her defenses, but unlike the old Kadence, the woman she is today won’t give in without a fight.

The tension is undeniable, the attraction fierce. A man that wants what he wants and a woman that will fight him every step of the way.

I wavered between giving this story and 2 or 3 stars so 2.5 stars it is.
Let's start with the bad and get that over with. I don't like first-person because so few authors can actually pull it off (Ilona Andrews and Roxie Rivera are two exceptions). With first person, they're telling you the story so it's so much harder to live it, if that makes any sense. And this book was no different. It was all tell and no show so the whole time I was very aware that I was reading someone's thoughts and I just couldn't get into the actual story. My second problem with first person is that it is all in the character's head and if the author isn't careful there is no outside interaction or description. Incandescent fell into this trap too: the characters were all wound up inside their heads with inner monologues that went on seemingly forever sometimes and very little outside conversation. Because of this the characters and romance felt flat and the plot plodded along most of the time. There were a few grammatical errors and sometimes the sentences felt a little disjointed, but I can live with that. So onto the characters: Kandace our h did not come across as feisty, to me she was abrasive and bratty and Nix he took too much of Kandace's sh**.
Now, onto the good. So many times I came close to just giving up and just when I was about close it there would be a shining moment in the story and it kept me vested in it. There is talent here but it needs to be polished up a bit. I also like that the author gave the reader a dirty-talking, alpha biker who doesn't hit (spankings are A-OK lol) or cheat on or treat the h like crap. Badass does not equal douchebag, Authors of the World. So thank you for that. I also liked the sex scenes, I thought they were hot, but then they started to fizzle. The author decided to fade parts of the sex scenes out near the end of the story. What was that about?
So the bad won out over the good unfortunately. It's hard to find a good story with badass alpha males who aren't also major d**ks. If any readers out there have any suggestions bring'em on.

This was not a bad read I just had a few problems with it.

I enjoyed Nix the hero. He is a yummy Alpha Male-Biker who will protect his loved ones. Loved seeing the softer side when it came to his son. You can tell he loves his son and means the world to him. But really only got to see this more towards the end. I needed more time through out the novel.

Kadence the heroine I had hard time connecting with her character until the end. Because of something bad from her past she does give a good fight with Nix. One minute she is all in and the next she is not.

The first half is really based off their up and down secret romance. Because Kadence is Nix son teacher and they did not want the school to find out. Nix falls hard for Kadence fast. He is not use to doing the chasing. After 3 weeks he was ready to claim her as his woman and I felt that was too fast. Even the heroine thought it was fast. They did have good chemistry together and he was a delicious Dirty-Talker.

There was a nice little jaw dropping moment I did not see coming in the plot. I think the most problem I had with this book was the format. The 1st half was ok but I really enjoyed the 2nd half. Everything that I wanted through out the book was in the second half. This was a toned down biker book and that worked for me. I wish some of the secondary characters were not behind the scenes. Love when an author brings to life secondary characters and tease us with them. Was curious what was going on but have to find out in book 2.

Overall I needed a good balance with his son and his time with Kadence through out the novel.
This was a promising start from what feels like a new author. The characters need to get out of their heads! This was the most frustrating part of the book for me, I found myself skimming just to get to the dialog. Also there were many instances where the author told us the story instead of letting us learn or experience things at the same time as the characters. For example, on their first date, they go out to his back deck... next thing we know they are heading inside after he told her all about his club. He was so glad she was so accepting. What did you specifically tell her? What was discussed? How much does she know? Maybe if he didnt have 4 pages of internal monolog about his club in the chapter before, we could have experienced their conversation first hand. Another example is the heroine`s first club party. The brothers warn her that it gets crazy and she better be prepared, she says she's up for anything. Next thing we know... she's waking up with a hangover from an amazing night! What the heck happened at the party? They semi-recap it at the bar the next day but it's not the same as experiencing the feelings/emotions of the characters. I think that would have been a great time to see the heroine really come into her ownership of her role in the club. It was a missed opportunity.
I may read more from this author in the future, but need more character development along the way.
